Maeola Bilbo Sumlin

On August 22, 1922, a little girl was born to Joel and Rosie Martha Bilbo in Lake Charles Louisiana. She was known to her family and friends as “Umma”.

Maeola “Umma” accepted Christ at an early age. She was an active member on the Usher Board and Mission #2 at Galilee Baptist Church under the officiating leadership of Pastor B.J. Hunter. She later became a member of Peoples Community Baptist Church under the officiating leadership of Pastor Jeffery Hunter. She is a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.

“Umma” was quietly called home on November 29, 2013 to be with the Lord. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Lee Drue Sumlin, Sr.; four sisters, Lee Magdaline Sonier, Elzinnie Hudson, Alice Neal Sonier, and Joella Jones; and four brothers, Otis T. White, OJ Bilbo, Elmon Bilbo, and Elson Bilbo.

Left to cherish memories of her are: her brother, William Bilbo of Seattle, Washington; her children: James F. Bilbo of Hitchcock, Texas, Beverly A. Owens of La Marque, Texas, Connie L. Sumlin (Willie) of Denton, Texas, Ivory C. Sumlin (Lena) of La Marque, Texas, Lee D. Sumlin, Jr. (Sheila) of La Marque, Texas, Jeanette Carroll (Ira) of Dickinson, Texas, Sue Ella Brown (Arthur) of La Marque, Texas, Kenneth H. Sumlin of Hitchcock, Texas, Gerald E. Sumlin of Hitchcock, Texas, and Timothy J. Sumlin of Texas City, Texas, Johnnie L. Edwards (Joyce) of Atlanta, Georgia; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
